Part of the crisis of American missions was the sensibility that home missions within the United States were being eroded by the moral corruptions of the urban areas and industrial factories. Japanese Christians suffered from accusations of disloyalty within their country and, like American YMCA missionaries, they were concerned about moral decline in their homeland.
